Duchess Meghan cheers on friend Serena Williams at Wimbledon

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and friend to tennis pro Serena Williams, made a surprise appearance at day four of Wimbledon to watch Williams play in her second round match.

The Duchess wore an "A" necklace as a nod to son Archie.

The duo have been there for many of each other's big moments: Williams previously attended Meghan and Harry's wedding previous year and helped plan and host the duchess' stateside baby shower in February.

Meghan is now on maternity leave from official royal duties, but made her first public appearance after the birth for Trooping the Colour to mark the Queen's official birthday in June.

The former actress also attended Wimbledon in 2016, not long after she met Harry.

This time, Meghan was joined courtside by two friends from her university days, rather than any of her royal in-laws.

According to the Daily Mail, Williams paid a visit to Frogmore Cottage recently, where the Meghan and Harry, Duke of Cambridge reside, along with her husband Alexis Ohanian and one-year-old daughter Olympia.

This is Markle's second time at Wimbledon as a royal; she attended last summer as well with Kate Middleton.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6th July".
