Former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen dies

Lorenzen passed away at the age of 38 after spending several days in the hospital.

As of yesterday, the most recent update from Lorenzen's family said he was "developing some traction" but cautioned that he still was dealing with renal and cardiac issues and was "very sick".

Before college, Lorenzen was a high school stud - he was awarded the prestigious Kentucky Mr. Football award for the best player in the state. Here are the reactions of those who knew and loved Jared.

"I lost my sweet boy today after a long hard fight", Jared's mother, Janet, said in a text to ESPN.

"It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jared Lorenzen, would like to extend our honest thanks and appreciation for all of your support and prayers over the past 6 days", the family said in a statement.

Lorenzen was a star and a cult hero at Kentucky in the early 2000s.

Lorenzen was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2004.

Lorenzen still holds University of Kentucky records for career passing yards (10,354), single-game passing yards (528), and ranks second in program history in career passing touchdowns (78). From there, Lorenzen made a career playing indoor football and eventually retired a few years ago. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
