7 takeaways from the Vikings’ preseason win over the Cardinals

The Minnesota Vikings started their third preseason game with a bang Saturday, and ended with one, too, defeating the visiting Arizona Cardinals 20-9 in Minneapolis. The highlight from the first unit came on an 85-yard touchdown run by Dalvin Cook.

The Vikings pulled away from the Cardinals late in the game to come away with a 20-9 victory and improve to a ideal 3-0 record with one week left to go before the start of the regular season slate.

Cardinals rookie quarterback Kyler Murray, the first overall pick in the 2019 draft, completed 14 of 21 passes for 137 yards, but could only lead Arizona to field goals during his first half of action. Outside of Cook's run, the Vikings' first-team offense averaged just two yards per play against Arizona. Hopefully, their performance against the Cardinals isn't a sign of things to come for the regular season.

Vikings: DT Linval Joseph, who joined the team for practice this week for the first time since offseason shoulder surgery, was held out of the starting lineup, as was SS Harrison Smith.

Vikings: Play at Tennessee on Thursday night in their final exhibition game.
