Microsoft Delivers Patch Tuesday Updates for Windows 10

Microsoft revealed that it has discovered two new security flaws in its Windows Desktop Services package.

The vulnerabilities are "wormable", meaning that any future malware that exploits these could jump from computer to computer without any need for users sending it across.

Evidently, the vulnerabilities were recently discovered by Microsoft during the hardening of Remote Desktop Services, and were found to be so-called wormable.

The security vulnerability dubbed as CVE-2019-1162 has been just fixed by Microsoft and it is important that Windows users update their systems to get the patch. It said users should patch affected systems immediately.

If you have automatic updates enabled then your PC should also be automatically protected by these fixes and you're also safe if you are running Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 as these are not affected.

Today, Microsoft announced two new Bluekeep like vulnerabilities that it has patched- CVE-2019-1181 and CVE-2019-118.

The vulnerability relates to the way communications between CTF clients and CTF servers - that is, the devices and the Windows installation using the module to communicate.

An attacker who can successfully exploit this can easily execute arbitrary codes on the target system. The main concern of course is with Windows 10 it's the current generation of the Windows OS.

In a blog post this week, Microsoft said that it doesn't believe that the vulnerabilities were being exploited in the wild by attackers. The August security update includes fixes for four remote code execution bugs. "The disclosure, once made available to the public, is anticipated to increase the amount of RDP scanning actively, increasing the chances of attempted exploitation of unpatched systems". Interim beta builds will provide further hints about what's coming, and we'll continue to cover them.

That 19H2/1909 will be a service pack, little more than a retread of May's Windows 10 1903, was clear from the small number of features Sarkar and LeBlanc touted last week, and those features' even smaller impact.

Take a few moments and check that you've installed Microsoft's August 2019 security updates on your PC.

Previous Windows 10 cumulative updates have reportedly failed with the error code 0x800f0982 earlier this year, and on the aforementioned Reddit thread, one person noted they received this error when attempting to install the May 2019 Update itself.
