'Mindhunter' Takes on the Atlanta Child Murders in Season 2 Trailer

Jonathan Groff's FBI Agent Holden Ford, Holt McCallany's Agent Bill Trench, and Anna Torv's Dr. Wendy Carr return, this time to investigate the racially charged Atlanta Child Murders of the late '70s and come face-to-face with Charles Manson, played by Damon Herriman...who also plays Manson in Quentin Tarantino's recently released Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Inspired by the real-life early days of criminal psychology and criminal profiling, Mindhunter follows two Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, played by Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany, who team up with psychologist (Anna Torv) to start studying serial killers. Season 2 finds Federal Bureau of Investigation agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Trench (Holt McCallany) taking on the Atlanta child murders, which unfolded place between 1979 and 1981, with 28 African-Americans slaughtered in Georgia.

Much of the drama in Mindhunter S1 dealt with Agents Ford and Tench butting heads with a boss who couldn't wrap his head around whatever the hell they were trying to accomplish by talking to serial murderers, but now it appears they're well in the clear, moving into new digs and having their methods adopted as official Federal Bureau of Investigation policy.

As with Season 1, series creator Joe Penhall has once again lured top auteur talent to take the directing reins. In addition to Fincher, directors this season also include Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James) and Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress), and Season 2 consists of nine episodes. The Mindhunter season 2 trailer hints that Ford may be as motivated by seeking justice for the victims as he is by the $100,000 reward promised to anyone who helps identify the perpetrator of the horrifying acts. The first season of Mindhunter has been Certified Fresh with a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and was lauded by critics for its reinvention of the crime procedural, when it premiered in October 2017.
