Ousmane Dembélé out for five weeks with hamstring injury

Barcelona have revealed Ousmane Dembele will be out for around five weeks after the France global suffered a strain to his left hamstring.

Dembele's maiden campaign was hampered by a serious hamstring injury, and he once again faces a spell on the sidelines after the problem reemerged in Barca's La Liga curtain-raiser against Athletic Bilbao last week.

It remains unclear whether Messi and Suarez will be available for the second-round match against Real Betis this weekend.

La Liga fantasy: Sign up now!

Argentine star Lionel Messi is a doubt for the game due to physical issues that prevented him from taking part in the Athletic game.

Lionel Messi returned to full training with Barcelona on Wednesday as he nears a comeback from a calf injury.

Barca head coach Ernesto Valverde may now consider the Argentina global for selection against Real Betis on Sunday, with Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez already ruled out.

Coach Ernesto Valverde could rely on newcomer Antoine Griezmann as the team's striker.

Dembele, 22, has enjoyed mixed fortunes at the Nou Camp since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for £97m in 2017.

Last season, club legend Guillermo Amor, also the director of institutional and sporting relations of the first team, feared the winger's attitude was unchangeable and the Frenchman's latest antics is beginning to be shared by others at the club.

His latest in a number of fitness setbacks, coupled with Suarez and Messi both being 32, shows why the Spanish champions are so keen to bring Neymar back to the club.
