R. Kelly Pleads Not Guilty to Sex Charges in NY

Prior to his arrest in July over the federal indictment, Kelly had been out on bond in connection with state felony charges of aggravated sexual assault in Chicago's Cook County criminal court.

The singer, who was already in custody in IL, landed at New Jersey's Teterboro Airport from Chicago on Thursday and was transferred to Metropolitan Correctional Center in NY, his attorney, Steve Greenberg, told CNN.

The five-count indictment from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York includes charges of racketeering and violations of the Mann Act, which "prohibits transporting people across state lines for the goal of prostitution", the New York Times previously reported.

"Yes sir", was all Kelly, dressed in blue prison scrubs, said during the arraignment, when asked by the judge whether he understood the charges against him.

As of this morning, the BOP website does list R. Kelly's location as a facility in Brooklyn.

The attorney for Kells has also gone on to call the alleged victims in the case to be suffering from "groupie remorse" despite the fact they were still minors.

The defense filing claims there is " zero" evidence Kelly gave one of the women an STD and discounts the argument that he is a flight risk, saying that he has appeared for all his previous court dates.

On Friday, prosecutor Elizabeth Geddes argued for Kelly to be denied bail, citing allegations he had committed obstruction crimes while out on bail during a 2002 case involving child pornography charges.

The R&B singer, 52, known for such hits as "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Bump N' Grind", was arrested in Chicago last month on the Brooklyn charges and a separate set of charges brought by federal prosecutors in Chicago.

Kelly allegedly recruited girls and young women in an illegal sex scheme.

Kelly has been charged with one count of racketeering and four counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits sexual trafficking across state lines.

In a letter to federal Magistrate Judge Steven Tiscione, obtained by The Blast, Anton writes, "I have not been able to see my client yet to intelligently discuss with him what is to transpire tomorrow, which is something I must be able to do". On July 16, he pleaded not guilty to the 13 federal charges brought by the IL prosecutors.

Kelly was arraigned on charges he sexually abused women and girls.

R. Kelly has been denied bail.
