Trump tells Florida residents to prepare for 'monster' storm via Twitter

Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell wrote in a tweet Wednesday that she was "rooting for a direct hit" by Hurricane Dorian on President Donald Trump's residence at Mar-a-Lago.

Dorian may bring unsafe storm surge to coastal Georgia as well as rain and wind to inland Georgia and South Carolina, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said Thursday.

Dorian could be as large as a Category 4 hurricane by the time it makes landfall in Florida.

Hurricane Dorian is now heading towards Florida, slowing down on its way.

This week Florida's governor declared a state of emergency, urged residents to stock up on food and water, and re-routed cruise ships, as aid groups put their teams on standby. Dorian is now located about 480 miles east of the northwestern Bahamas and has started the turn west, moving at 12 mph.

Dorian could be the most powerful storm to hit the state's east coast in almost 30 years.

No evacuations were ordered as of early Friday, but they're expected as the storm's path become clearer before it makes landfall.

The National Hurricane Centre have said winds were expected to reach 130mph (210km/h) over the weekend.

"Hurricane #Dorian is moving slowly & gaining strength".

A map of Florida has both the GFS and Euro computer models in agreement: the state of Florida is going to be impacted by Hurricane Dorian early next week.

What is a state of emergency?

"Not every path of the storm has the same probability but you've got to be prepared for that".

The president further weighed in on the storm Thursday evening, saying in a short video posted to Twitter, "It's looking like it could be an absolute monster".

"But this is going to be a powerful storm and there's still a certain amount of uncertainty in this forecast". "We have extensive recent experience in Florida and the wider region".

Dorian could churn across dozens of launchpads owned by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Air Force and companies such as Elon Musk's SpaceX and Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin.

Residents are preparing for Hurricane Dorian by making sand bags in order to prevent flooding.

Feeding on the warm waters in the open ocean, Dorian steamed toward the US after rolling through the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, where it inflicted less damage than feared but was blamed for at least one death.

Supermarkets ran out of bottled water and long lines formed at gas stations, with fuel shortages were reported in some places.
