Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders in El Paso

The US president was about to leave for Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, to visit first responders and victims of the two mass shootings that took place this weekend.

During his visit to the hospital where numerous victims are being treated, the president praised medical staff for their response to the shooting saying, "They're talking about you all over the world".

Speaking to several hundred people, Democratic presidential candidate and El Paso local Beto O'Rourke said immigrants had made the city one of the safest cities in America, before Saturday's shooting.

Former vice president Joe Biden said in a speech on Wednesday that Trump "has fanned the flames of white supremacy in this nation" while former Rep. Beto O'Rourke told CNN that Trump is a white nationalist.

However, El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, are the latest places to join the long list of communities devastated by mass shootings on their own doorstep.

Trump's plan to visit the predominantly Hispanic west Texas border city of El Paso was especially controversial for another reason. "I'm glad he did it in those hospital rooms", Brown said. But his critics claimed his statement was not good enough because Trump did not take personal responsibility for how his rhetoric has contributed to the El Paso massacre. They said his crowd was wonderful.

But Escobar said that the White House told her Trump was "too busy" to talk, so she turned down their invitation so as not to be "an accessory to his visit". "Using racist language to describe Mexicans, immigrants and other minorities dehumanize us", she wrote on Twitter.

The city of El Paso said the White House still owes it half a million dollars for that rally.

But a police officer told her that her 21-year-old son was legally allowed to purchase the weapon, and nothing was done about the "informational" call, according to the lawyers. And Trump spent part of his flight between OH and Texas airing his grievances on Twitter, berating Democratic lawmakers, O'Rourke and the press.

Of the 680 people arrested on Wednesday during immigration raids in MS, more than 300 were released on Thursday morning with notices to appear before immigration judges, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Bryan Cox said. And it's his job in part to comfort people.

But outside Dayton's Miami Valley Hospital, at least 200 protesters gathered, blaming Trump's incendiary rhetoric for inflaming political and racial tensions in the country and demanding action on gun control. "We will be defined by the love, compassion, and strength of El Paso". He did the right things and Melania did the right things. On Tuesday, the president's press secretary announced that the day would be about honoring victims, consoling families, and thanking first responders and medical professionals for helping out others.
