Andreescu, Serena soar into Top 5

Andreescu beat American legend Serena Williams in the U.S. Open final on Saturday in NY.

With her U.S. Open win, the teen prodigy catapulted 10 spots to fifth in the latest WTA rankings, just ahead of her idol and reigning Wimbledon champion Simona Halep and four spots above 23-time Grand Slam victor and the woman she defeated in the final, Serena Williams. She has a 46-4 record on the year and has more than US$6 million in official earnings with the potential to add millions in endorsement deals.

"I'd love to play her and I'd love to test myself against her to see why and how she presents so many challenges and why she's winning all these matches and is as good as she is", Barty said.

Crombie said she first met the tennis phenom, who trained at the Ontario Racquets Club, at the Rogers Cup in Toronto this past June.

"I basically want to achieve the same things she has", said Dragan of Andreescu's success. "Just "Average Serena" is not going to cut it in Melbourne in January; she will have to bring her best".

"It puts it into perspective that there's no reason why other children around that age can't do what she's doing - it just takes a lot of hard work and determination", Preciado said.

"Everything has been pretty hectic ever since, so I never really got the chance to let everything soak in", Andreescu told Fallon.

Three Americans made big moves in Monday's rankings: 15-year-old Coco Gauff went up 34 places to 106th after reaching the third round before losing to Osaka, Kristie Ahn moved up 48 to 93rd and Taylor Townsend rose 33 to 83rd.

Although the opportunity of bringing Andreescu and the U.S. Open trophy on stage at a concert like he famously did with the Larry OB seems too good to pass up.

Andreescu suffered a setback the week after she won at Indiana Wells.

"Last year she was outside the Top 50 but as of yesterday she was ranked fifth in the world", said Heyland.

Serena Williams may have felt like she didn't show up on the court Saturday, but she certainly showed up for the NY premiere of The Game Changers.

There's another silver lining to the injury. "I seek to be like her, I try to have a variety in my shots and I would like to start to be composed".
