Democratic donor arrested after multiple men overdose in his home

A third man survived an overdose last week.

Since 2017, two men have been found dead of apparent methamphetamine overdoses inside Buck's West Hollywood apartment.

Eighteen months later, 55-year-old Timothy Dean also suffered a methamphetamine overdose. Despite the overwhelming "fruits of the crime" present at the scene, prosecutors refused to charge Buck citing insufficient evidence.

After Dean's death, California Representative Ted Lieu announced he would donate $18,000 in contributions from Buck to civil rights organizations, while the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee donated Buck's contributions to a Latino group called the NALEO Education Fund.

Timothy Dean, 56, was found dead of a meth overdose in Buck's apartment on January 7. To support that, they said that Buck is "a predator with no regard for human life" who gave the victims "dangerously large doses of narcotics".

"These fetishes include supplying and personally administering dangerously large doses of narcotics to his victims", the prosecutors wrote, according to the Times.

The motion added that these actions "led to the death of two men in Buck's apartment, Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean". The case remains under investigation by the sheriff's department.

"The full scope of his consistent malicious behavior is unknown", prosecutors wrote in court papers obtained by PEOPLE. "He mainly preys on men made vulnerable by addition and homelessness".

Buck is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom. Ed Buck is being held on $4 million bail after his arrest overnight. If convicted, per KABC, Buck could face more than five years in prison.

Martin said Buck seemed to insinuate that his legal troubles would be over eventually. The deaths sparked protests from activists who complained authorities are not doing enough. However, the medical coroner ruled that he died of an accidental methamphetamine overdose. He was found naked on a mattress in the living room, which was littered with drug paraphernalia.

After Mr Moore's mother, LaTisha Nixon, questioned Mr Buck's involvement in the overdose, an investigation was launched.

A notebook found in Moore's possession indicated he used drugs with someone whose name is redacted in the coroner's report.

According to the Times, Moore had worked as a prostitute.

Community organizers including LaTisha Nixon, left, the mother of Gemmel Moore, carry boxes of signatures to the Hall of Justice on February 27, 2019. Moore subsequently struggled with addiction and at the time of his death was homeless and working in the sex trade. "The complaint describes Buck as a wealthy white man who 'had a predatory and injurious system of soliciting Black men and watching them cling to life.' It accuses him of wrongful death, sexual battery and assault and says he was not prosecuted 'because he is white, and because Mr. Moore was Black'". Since they were no longer alive to contradict that, police insist they were stymied.

"Today is like a celebration for us", said Jasmyne Cannick as she spoke to those gathered.

Cannick took to Twitter on Tuesday night to confirm Buck's arrest and to lament on the difficulties in bringing this story to light.

She pulled up to Buck's West Hollywood apartment building just as a police auto was driving away.

Hussain Turk, an attorney who represents the families of Moore and Dean in the federal lawsuit, says he is happy that Buck has been taken into custody.

"We're just completely ecstatic", she said. According to Cannick, Buck has coerced other young black men into shooting meth and having sex. "The whole black LGBT community is going to be celebrating this evening because our lives matter".
