Edmonton man played same lottery numbers for decades. Then, finally, $60 million

"I started to think about what this win would mean for my family", Mr Truong said. It was almost 30 years.

Finally, 305 days later, Truong claimed his prize at the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis office in St. Albert Wednesday.

'I realized it's going to alter a whole lot of issues and I needed to verify we had been all prepared and ready for these adjustments'. He said he checked the ticket the day after the draw and has kept his winnings quiet ever since. "I think we'll try to go everywhere".

Bon Truong, who moved from Vietnam to Canada more than 30 years ago, collected his Lotto Max winnings 10 months after he was the sole victor for the October 26, 2018, drawing.

However Truong then waited 10 months to say the money, and stated he did so as a result of 'he felt overwhelmed by the magnitude of his win'. Ten months passed before Truong came forward with his winning ticket. The $60 million jackpot was previously won by a couple back in September 2017.

While many people would probably list things they could do or buy with that amount of cash, waiting several months to claim the prize might seem low on the list - but that's exactly what one Canadian man did. Truong doesn't want his kids to be spoiled and still intends to raise them to learn the value of working for a living.

He said he plans to buy a new home and put away the rest for his family's future.

"I'm still young, I'm still strong".

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation said Truong has tied for first as the biggest Lotto Max victor in Alberta's history.

This multimillion-dollar jackpot is the first big Alberta win purchased in the capital city, with the previous five top prizes finding winners in small communities.

Truong was joined by his niece Mina and his family friend Don Bishop, who was emotional at the good fortune that has now come to Bon. But right now with the money coming, I will take a lot of time, take care of my family and still work after I'm done this.
