FIFA explains why Egypt's The Best votes for Salah did not count

"The best one (players) for me is Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but they are not here", said Eto'o.

The coach of Sudan and the captain of Nicaragua have also claimed inaccuracies regarding their votes, saying their submissions published by Federation Internationale de Football Association under their names were not for the player they actually chose.

Egypt's forward Mohamed Salah runs during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) Round of 16 football match between Egypt and South Africa at the Cairo International Stadium in the Egyptian Capital on July 6, 2019.

The 27-year-old forward came fourth in the voting for the world player of the year award, behind the victor Lionel Messi, club teammate Virgil Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo despite winning 2019 UEFA Champions League and joint Premier League golden boot alongside African compatriot of Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season.

The forms also lacked a mandatory signature by the EFA general secretary.

Samuel Eto'o remarked that Egypt's Mohamed Salah and Senegal forward Sadio Mané are the best players in the world. The EFA further announced that Egyptian skipper Ahmed Elmohamady voted for Salah in place of former Olympic coach Shawki Gharib, who was earlier dismissed along with the entire staff.

Following the controversy of Egypt's delegation not voting for Salah in the FIFA Best Awards, it has been revealed that it was caused by an administrative error.

He took reference to Egypt out of his Twitter profile and also wrote: 'Whatever they do to try to change my love for Egypt, they will not succeed'.

"We are asking the Nicaraguan Football Federations to inquire on this matter".

Salah, who was third in 2018, dropped a place this year and ended in fourth place.

It is not the first time that Salah has been upset with the EFA, following a row previous year over the image rights that saw him threaten to quit the national team.
