We've known for a while that season 1 was landing this fall, but now HBO has gotten specific: His Dark Materials will premiere on HBO on Monday, November 4.
We've seen some teasers and trailers for it, but we've been waiting for the official premiere date for His Dark Materials. Hit the comments and let us know!
Based on Philip Pullman's fantasy books that kicked off with The Golden Compass in 1995, HBO's His Dark Materials TV series will expand on the source material on its journey from page to screen. And in the U.S., you can check out the series on HBO on Monday, November 4.
Adapting Philip Pullman's award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the series follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but fearless young woman from another world. Lyra's search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. She embarks on an awesome journey to uncover the truth and learn what is behind the phenomenon called Dust. That means subscribers to the premium cable service will be getting a one-two combo of the Watchmen HBO series and His Dark Materials back-to-back until the New Year, with Watchmen taking up the coveted Sunday slot from October 20. After all, this isn't the first time someone tried to adapt Pullman's books. The first book was previously adapted into a disappointing 2007 feature film directed by Chris Weitz and starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman.
Unfortunately, the movie didn't garner quite the audience needed for such a sprawling epic, and no more movies were made in the trilogy.
Not only does it seem like a lovely adaptation of the story, but there is quite the impressive cast bringing His Dark Materials to life. It's the first in a series of mysterious events that propel Lyra on an global journey, followed by a string of child kidnappings, the disappearance of her friend, and the arrival of the enthralling but risky Mrs. Coulter (The Affair's Ruth Wilson).
