Liverpool win big at Fifa Football Awards but Van Dijk misses out

The Juventus forward did not attend the ceremony despite being among the three finalists.

In addition to receiving the best goalkeeper award, Alisson was also named in the FIFA FIFPro men's team of the year along with his Liverpool team-mate Virgil van Dijk. Allegri revealed that it was because he had a match the next day: "we're sorry we couldn't make it, but the event was a bad fit in our calendar".

The duo has dominated the award since 2008, with their string of victories only interrupted by Luka Modric previous year.

"Today, I, unfortunately, didn't win but I'm not disappointed", he added.

Jürgen Klopp was selected as the best coach in men's football, while Jill Ellis received the same recognition in women's football.

In the women's category, Rapinoe claimed the top award after helping her country to back-to-back World Cup titles this year.

"The people who vote made a decision and you have to accept it".

FIFPRO Women's World 11: Sari van Veenendaal, Lucy Bronze, Wendie Renard, Nilla Fischer, Kelly O'Hara, Amandine Henry, Julie Ertz, Marta, Rose Lavelle, Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan.

Klopp won the award ahead of Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola and Tottenham coach, Muaricio Pochettino.

"It is great, nobody expected this 20, 10, five, four years ago that I would be standing here", said the 52-year-old German who joined Liverpool in 2015.

"As a coach you can only be as good as your team".

Two-time women's World Cup-winning coach Ellis, beat Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman, runner-up in France 2019, and England's Phil Neville for the award.

Federation Internationale de Football Association announced their 2019 World Team of the Year on Monday evening, but only two Liverpool stars made the team which is dominated by Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old forward, on his debut, scored a spectacular overhead kick to win the game for his side Debrecen against Ferencvaros in stoppage time.
