No Rouhani-Trump meet on United Nations sidelines

Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he believes Iran is not yet ready for talks with the USA but will be.

"As the president said, we don't want war with anybody but the United States is prepared", Pence said in a speech to the Heritage Foundation think tank in Washington.

After Abe and Rouhani agreed on Japanese assistance in the fields of medicine and disaster prevention during their talks previous year in NY on the fringes of the United Nations meeting, Iranian officials made repeated requests for medical aid, including the supply of advanced equipment, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Iran's supreme leader ruled out negotiations with the USA "at any level" after Washington pinned blame for the attack on Tehran. "We're the undisputed champion of energy", he said.

Iran responded by scaling back its commitments under the landmark accord, which gave it the promise of sanctions relief in return for curbs on its nuclear programme.

"I'm not looking to get into new conflict, but sometimes you have to", he said.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (Sept 17) he is not keen on meeting his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani next week during the United Nations General Assembly in NY. "That was a very large attack, and it could be met by an attack many, many times larger".

During a news conference in Riyadh on Wednesday, the Saudi defense ministry showed surveillance footage of the missiles traveling south from Iran and remnants of some of the Iranian drones used in the attack, they said.
