Schiff expects whistleblower to testify 'soon'

Democrats charged aggressively into an impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump on Friday, ordering Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to turn over Ukraine-related documents and scheduling testimony for witnesses to alleged abuse of power by the USA leader.

According to the whistleblower complaint, Volker and Gordon Sondland, the USA ambassador to the European Union, tried to advise the Ukrainian government on how to navigate demands that Trump and his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, made regarding a potential investigation into the son of Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden.

Central to the Democratic-led inquiry is Mr Giuliani's effort to have Ukraine conduct a corruption probe into 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter's dealings with a Ukrainian energy company. CNN previously reported that Zelensky had joked with Volker about Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney who is also a key player in the scandal, before the phone call was made.

The complaint also alleges that Volker went to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, to help guide Ukraine officials on how to handle Trumps's demands.

U.S. special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker resigned one day after the release of a whistleblower report alleging a phonecall coverup by the White House.

"The process is what will give us something that we can make an informed judgment on", Amodei said.

Giuliani said Sunday he thinks Schiff "has already prejudged" whether Trump linked US aid to Ukraine in exchange for the probe.

For Mr Trump, the developments pose a threat like none he has encountered before, even from special counsel Robert Mueller's report over Russia's meddling in the 2016 elections. The department said Barr will not recuse himself from Ukraine-related investigations. "The so-called "Whistleblower" knew practically NOTHING in that those ridiculous charges were far more dramatic & wrong, just like Liddle' Adam Schiff".

Trump's approval rating remains low, with only 41 percent of voters approving of his job as president and a majority, 56 percent, disapproving, according to the latest Morning Consult poll numbers. A senior administration official confirmed to CBS News that it was filed in that highly-classified system.

The comments reportedly alarmed White House officials who restricted access to a memorandum describing the meeting to those with only the highest security access.

David Sanger, a national security correspondent at the NYT, was among those who congratulated Howard, as were other journalists. It would take a two-thirds vote to suspend those rules. "That would constitute an unconscionable abuse of power", they said. On Friday, Trump called for Schiff's resignation as he has also done in the past.

The survey polled 504 adults and has a plus/minus margin of error of 4.8 percentage points.

Only 17 percent of American adults said they are at all "surprised" by allegations of misconduct by President Donald Trump in regards to Ukraine that have sparked a House of Representatives impeachment inquiry. "I would think of challenging their subpoena on the grounds that they're not a legitimate committee", the former mayor said.
