Meghan Markle made a secret stop during her royal tour of South Africa.

Harry, dressed more formally than usual in a light grey suit, met the couple at the presidential palace before visiting the Lucrecia Paim maternity hospital, where Angola's first lady has spearheaded a project focused on preventing mothers from transmitting HIV to their babies.

By clearing the mines, he said, Angola could allow the region's habitat and wildlife to recover around the Cuito River, bringing benefits to Angolans and the ecosystem.

The prince retraced his mother's steps in Huambo, Angola, on Friday - through what was a live minefield in 1997, when Diana put on a protective vest and visor to highlight the danger of mines around the world.

Meghan Markle joined her husband Prince Harry for a few minutes via Skype during his visit to CAMFED, a charity working to keep girls in school and provide them with a good education.

Meghan and Harry are both on a tour of southern Africa, with son Archie, for a total of ten days.

Queen Elizabeth's grandson and sixth in line to the throne has been visiting southern Africa for 20 years for holidays and conservation work, however that is his the primary official overseas tour with each Meghan and their son.

During her visit in 1997, Diana said that Angola had "one amputee per 334 inhabitants", the highest rate in the world.

The Duchess of Sussex has tied a ribbon at the memorial to a murdered South African student after personally passing on her condolences to the 19-year-old's mother.

The trip took place covertly this week but has been declared on the official Sussex Royal Instagram webpage on Saturday.

Crime statistics released earlier this month revealed that murders have increased by more than 3% and sexual offenses rose by almost 5% in the country at the tip of Africa.

Mrwetyana's death appeared to be a tipping point for many South African women, who took to the streets soon aftter to protest at the government's failure to deal with rising violence against women.

"Much of my life I have been advocating for women and girls' rights, so this has been an incredibly powerful moment to hear first-hand from all of you", she said.
