"For me, if you start something, and we've just started the Premier League and all of the competitions, if you don't think you can win the competition then you won't start anything in your life", Luiz, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea last summer, said in an interview with NBC Sports.
Emery also appears open to giving Ozil another chance, revealing the factors for his limited action this term ahead of Monday's Premier League trip to Sheffield United.
Mesut Ozil has spoken for the first time about being at the centre of an attempted carjacking alongside his wife Amine and Arsenal team-mate Sead Kolasinac.
"It always happens that an ex-player stands there on TV and criticises me", he said.
But the 32-year-old defender says things are getting better under Emery and that they will soon be competing with Liverpool and Manchester City. "In the last two or three weeks, his training has improved".
The events took place when the two Arsenal players were attacked in the the middle of the street by two armed individuals.
However, the player insisted most of the criticism is unwarranted and he is always unfairly blamed for the bad performance of the rest of the team in big games. The Uruguayan has oddly been deployed as the most offensive of a midfield three in big games this season, but should be allowed to play in his preferred screening role on Monday.
"When I signed the new deal, I thought about it very carefully and said it was one of the most important decisions of my footballing career", Ozil told The Athletic.
Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette faces a fitness test on the ankle problem that has ruled him out since the start of September.
"We talk about this with every single club, Arsenal is no different", he added.
"It depends on how he feels in the next days whether he'll feature on Monday, but it's been positive".
"It doesn't take me long to get over - I'm not going around the pitch or sat on the bench pissed off for the next five minutes or anything".
