Demaryius Thomas rips Patriots, calls stint with team a 'waste of time'

"Adam's one of, as I I've talked about, I think one of the best game planners in the game and does an excellent job of attacking defenses and just making it tough to handle what they do offensively, with their different personnel groups and plays and his play calling", Belichick said before practice on Thursday.

The 38-year-old tight end came out of retirement this offseason to sign with the Patriots, who originally drafted him back in 2004. They would ultimately re-add him to the roster days later, but once Antonio Brown became available, Belichick suddenly traded him to the New York Jets. Two weeks later, I was gone. The reason for his absence was unclear, as is his status for Monday night's matchup with the New York Jets.

Demaryius Thomas thought he would be a Patriots wide receiver this season but instead is with the Jets after a short stay in New England that he considers a waste of his time.

"I felt like I was always truthful with him", he said, "but things change, and therefore, what I said was not the same as what I'd said previously".

"We've faced them several times here in recent years, so I'd certainly put him up there based on that", Belichick said. Last season in New Orleans, he had 35 catches for 400 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games (four starts).

That left them in need of blockers in general and tight ends, specifically, to the point that Josh McDaniels said Tuesday that the dwindling personnel could impact game plans.

"We understand that this is a must-win for us, that's how we're going about it", he said.

After bringing Brown aboard, Belichick chose to keep undrafted rookies Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski over Thomas and that probably didn't feel great for the 32-year-old.

Claimed off waivers this season by the Giants on September 1, Tomlinson, 27, played seven offensive snaps in three games for them before being released on September 24. At my position and what I do, it was affecting me cutting and changing direction, and I do that every single play. I could have been here the next day after I got released.
