Harrison Barnes, Malik Jackson Paying For Funeral Of Atatiana Jefferson

A funeral service for a woman shot in her home by a Fort Worth police officer was cancelled hours before it was scheduled to take place amid a family dispute over arrangements.

Jefferson's funeral will be held Saturday.

When police arrived at her home, Atatiana Jefferson was playing video games and baby-sitting her 8-year-old nephew. And with the shooting death of Jefferson, the police are "trying to make a case for what we hear far too often: the officer perceived a threat and reacted according to his training".

"The Carr family is invited, there is room for them, they are more than welcome, they'll be respected, they'll be treated with dignity and that's what should happen", he said.

Dallas County Probate Court Judge Brenda Hull Thompson scheduled a hearing for Monday morning to determine whether the restraining order should continue. A Fort Worth Police Department spokesperson told Insider that Dean was commissioned as an officer in April 2018. Jim Lane, a Fort Worth attorney who is representing Dean, declined to comment on the case.

Police were called to Jefferson's Fort Worth home early Saturday after a neighbor noticed her door was left open and grew concerned, according to initial reports. He then pointed his weapon at a window and yelled "Put your hands up!" Aaron Dean, 34, did not identify himself as an officer before opening fire, police video showed.

"She was smart, ambitious...and a hard worker", Ashley Carr said of her slain sister.

At that point, she was shot and fell to the ground, the affidavit said.

"They're usually home but they never have both doors open", the neighbor told her.

"Tay was love. And that smile?" The father sought the order to gain control over the funeral arrangements of his daughter from his daughter's aunt, Bonita Body. The events that followed it have unfolded in ways that are both typical and unique, leaving her family and activists to balance hope with caution. She graduated with a pre-med degree in biology from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2014 and was working in pharmaceutical equipment sales, civil rights attorney Lee Merritt said.

Barnes played the better part of three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks before joining the Kings in a trade during the 2019 season. It was later reported that Philadelphia Eagles' Malik Jackson will pay for the remainder of funeral costs. "Anytime you come into a community, you always have a piece of that community with you and you want to give back". It's a tragic situation.
