Highs and Lows: Penn State 28 - MI 21

Hold it, won't ya: Penn State didn't fumble.

As he weaved across the field, ducking between television cameras and accepting well-wishes from several MI players, there was a long list of people KJ Hamler needed to find.

Penn State took over with 2:12 remaining in the game and managed to run the clock out to secure a 28-21 win over MI at home during a Beaver Stadium "white out". And lo and behold, the Nittany Lions did, though with the help of this week's installment of the "worst drop" category. It got easier when back-to-back MI offside penalties moved the ball to the 1.

Clifford's TD run was sandwiched between those passing strikes.

In most circumstances, a 6-4, 319-pound human wouldn't be too hard to find, but as players scattered across the field with the game clock at triple zeros to exchange hugs, handshakes and photos, Hamler finally found Ruiz. Penn State's running game struggled a bit, as Ricky Slade led the team with just 48 rushing yards. No other Penn State running back broke 19 yards. The snafu was a major boon to the Nittany Lions, who were reeling throughout the fourth quarter.

The Michigan Wolverines' football defense got off to a rough start on Saturday night, yielding 21 points and 203 yards of offense to Penn State in the first half alone.

Hamler was a weapon that MI had trouble containing as the Nittany Lions wide receiver had six receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

BEST HIT Micah Parsons' first shot at Patterson wasn't wasted. The Wolverines punted the ball back seven plays later.

MI dominated the second half in time of possession as Penn State was unable to manage much offense. that gave Michigan's offense an opportunity to grind away at the Penn State defense, which paid off in a big way after halftime.

Leading 21-7 early in the third, the Nittany Lions went three-and-out and risked giving MI good field position with punter Blake Gillikin standing close to his own 10. Opening the second half with the ball, the redshirt sophomore burst through a hole along the left hash and found himself in the clear for an untouched trip into the end zone. That would've come in handy as Penn State's offense went cold for much of the second half. Still, Penn State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) hung on to defeat MI (5-2, 3-2). The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes are the only undefeated teams in the division and won't play until the next-to-last game of the regular season.

"They got us on a long one in the first half", Harbaugh said.

The first 22 minutes, 28 seconds belonged to Penn State.

Clifford went 14 for 25 for 182 yards and had three passing touchdowns in the Nittany Lions' win. Penn State led 21-0 midway through the second quarter before MI rallied on two 12-yard touchdown runs by Zach Charbonnet and a 1-yard sneak by quarterback Shea Patterson.
