Intelligence community inspector general meets with Congress today about whistleblower complaint

"China should start an investigation into the Bidens", Trump said.

Editor's Note: Schiff has been having one hell of a time with misleading and false statements lately.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told The Wall Street Journal in a Friday interview that U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland told him the U.S. was tying military aid to Ukraine and Trump's request for an investigation related to the 2016 presidential election. He knew long before, and he helped write it too. Hours later, on the White House lawn, he described Schiff as a "stone-cold liar".

The very next day, Schiff appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe", where he seemingly graduated from dodging to lying, the Post says.

Some of the president's allies have echoed his attacks on Schiff's credibility. Many Republicans, however, have shown little appetite for ousting him.

Schiff later called what he did "in part, parody". Adam Schiff's scheme to mislead the American people through lies and deception is just a further example of why this whole impeachment charade is a sham.

Last week, Trump also described whoever had provided the whistleblower with information about his call with the Ukrainian President as "close to a spy, " adding that in the old days spies were dealt with differently.

Asked if he was influential in the removal of the ambassador, Giuliani said, "I just turn my information over" to the State Department.

On Facebook, only a handful of ads have targeted Schiff. On Saturday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy shared the theory. It reached fewer than 1,000 people, according to data Facebook published about the ad.

"We have not spoken directly with the whistleblower". His public profile grew over the past two years as a sharp-spoken but seldom-ruffled defender of the investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 US election.

Mr Schiff "couldn't carry his blank strap", said Mr Trump, omitting the word "jock" in an apparent effort to censor the schoolyard taunt.

While the impeachment inquiry is centred on the president, his top aides are becoming swept up in the controversy. "We don't want this to drag on months and months and months".

His approach has drawn harsh critiques from Republican lawmakers.

Atkinson, a former Justice Department lawyer appointed to this current position by Trump in 2017 and confirmed by the Senate a year ago, is appearing before the Intelligence Committee a day after the former USA special envoy to Ukraine, Kurt Volker, testified before several congressional committees about the administration's dealings with Ukraine. He said that he relied on information from more than half a dozen American officials to compile his allegations about Mr. Trump's campaign to solicit foreign election interference that could benefit him politically.

Some Republican lawmakers repeated those calls this week. During a press conference, Trump claimed Schiff "probably helped write" the complaint and called it a hoax.

Schiff's remarks produced escalating public battles with the president.

Trump froze US$400 million in United States aid to Ukraine shortly before speaking to Zelenskiy and Democrats accuse Trump of misusing U.S. foreign policy and taxpayer dollars for personal gain.

GOP Leadership was not alone in their steadfast claim against the Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee. Democrats have been insistent on not repeating that performance.

Democrats have said that any refusal to turn over records and documents will be used as evidence of obstruction of their impeachment inquiry, which could eventually inform any articles of impeachment passed by the House.
