Jasprit Bumrah to travel to the United Kingdom for stress fracture treatment

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to leave for London to seek an opinion regarding the stress fracture that ruled him out of the South Africa Test series.

With regular opener Prithvi Shaw, who is now serving a doping ban, not available for selection Rohit is all set to walk out to open the innings on Wednesday with Mayank Agarwal in his 28th test for India.

But it won't surprise many if the stylish opener scores a "daddy hundred" here, like he is used to in the blue jersey.

Kohli backed Rohit on the eve of the match, assuring him enough opportunities.

Much focus in the first Test in Visakhapatnam will be on the 32-year-old Mumbaikar - a star of India's limited-overs teams as well as skipper of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He gets a new chance because of the poor form of Pant, who had been groomed as the long-term successor to legendary batsman-wicketkeeper M.S. Dhoni.

"But we could not see a situation but now there is a situation and it is an ideal time to go ahead with it because we have spoken about it. ODIs were the same with him".

"And we understand that if he does that, then our batting order at the top becomes more lethal".

"All of us are looking forward to this challenge and there are a lot of player-to-player challenges as well". The hosts have predictably named two frontline spinners in the XI - Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

"He's played well whenever he's got a chance, with the bat also, and it was unfortunate that he was out for such a long period". "According to me, he is the best keeper in the world", said Kohli. Jadeja had played both the Tests in the West Indies while Ashwin warmed the bench.

"The wickets spun more last time, this time it is not expected to turn as much".

South Africa are readying themselves for a new era in Test cricket. They had lost the four-match series 3-0 back then.

On the issue of picking Saha over Pant, Kohli confirmed that the decision was made purely on the basis of the conditions on offer and since, Saha was the best wicket-keeper in the world, he deserved to get a run in the side once fit.

In the new squad, fast bowler Anrich Nortje, wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second and left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy are all uncapped.

Bumrah, whose workload has been managed since 2018, was set to make his comeback to global cricket with the South Africa Test series but was ruled out after the stress fracture got detected during the regular checkups.

Match starts 9.30 am IST.
