Mijia releases its own Xiaomi Watch press render

According to images shared on Weibo, the Mi Watch will come in a very Apple Watch-like design, although it looks to be more boxy on the sides (hopefully there'll be a bigger battery here).

Xiaomi isn't entirely new to the wearables space, considering it has used its sibling company Amazfit to produce smartwatches, but it may soon introduce a new piece of smart wristwear under the main "Xiaomi" brand name.

We already know what the Xiaomi Watch looks like thanks to an official render released by the company's CEO, Lei Jun and also a live photo that leaked afterward. There's also a microphone in the middle. The Mi Watch will also support NFC as well as Global Positioning System.

A reference to a yet to be published Mi Wear app - the app doesn't exist right now - found in the Wear OS APK recently raised speculation that Xiaomi may be joining in the Wear OS smartwatch bandwagon, with further investigation revealing that the company may call it the Mi Watch.

The New York Times once described Xiaomi in a headline as having assembled a consumer electronics "empire built by aping Apple".

Xiaomi went as far to include a picture of the Mi Watch's innards, which show that it will be equipped with Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC chips, as well as an eSIM. Even better if it's the same one that is launching in China on November 5.

We, like other press outlets, have zinged Xiaomi before for its brazen mimicking of Apple, from Xiaomi's AirDots product earlier this year that resembled Apple's AirPods to Xiaomi's Mi 9 smartphone bearing a striking resemblance to the iPhone X as well as Xiaomi's Memoji knockoff.
