Speaking with CTV News Toronto off-camera one day after her teenage son had died, Shari-Ann Sullivan Selvey said she was alerted to Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School, located near Parkdale Avenue South and Main Street East, on Monday afternoon for a problem. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk said.
On Tuesday, police also arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl who will both be charged with first degree murder. "She is distraught", Bereziuk said.
Investigators said they found the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing during a ground search Tuesday.
A 14-year-year boy has died after an assault outside a high school in Hamilton on Monday afternoon.
Police say that they have obtained video footage of the incident and are confident that they will track down the remaining two suspects, CBC reports.
"We do believe there is some element of preplanning and premeditation to this homicide", Bereziuk said, although he did not elaborate on the relationships between Devan and the four people now accused in his death.
Bereziuk said that authorities have video of the incident.
Under the regulations of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youths can not be identified.
Bracci-Selvey says she hasn't slept since witnessing the attack on her son, and she relives the horror every time she closes her eyes.
"She was just very upset", a witness, who only identified herself as Alice, told CTV News Toronto. "She's devastated." he said. Police said they're not searching for anyone else.
She described her 14-year-old son as being a bit shy as he took time to open up to people. "There are no words that can begin to describe how shocked we are to learn about this loss", Manny Figueiredo, the board's director of education, said in a statement.
