Tornado touched down in Northern Dallas, National Weather Service says

There are no reports of fatalities or serious injuries, but Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says three people were hospitalized for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

City officials urged residents to stay indoors if they are in an area with storm damage due to downed trees, power lines and debris. A gas leak was also reported in the Walnut Hill area of the city.

As of Monday morning, more than 100,000 electric customers in the state remain in the dark, according to power company Oncor.

The Storm Prediction Center said severe thunderstorms could continue through Monday night along the Gulf Coast from southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle, with damaging winds and a couple of tornadoes possible.

"We apologize and want you to know that we're doing everything in our power to make sure this does not happen again", the statement concluded. A second set of teams will resume search efforts in daylight.

The storm left six people injured but as of right now there are no deaths as a result of the tornado, according to CBS Dallas Fort Worth.

A fire station was also damaged during the story.

In this October 20, 2019, photo offered by Lew Morris, damage to the Reckless Rock Radio station studio is seen after a tornado touched down in Dallas, Texas.

He told the host of the show that had been broadcasting to follow him to the bathroom for safety.

"We then heard the building shaking and could hear the glass windows shattering everywhere along with debris banging around. We waited until all the noise died down", Mr Morris said.

Meteorologists said the tornado had landed in the area of the Love Field airport, before moving north-east.

There are no preliminary ratings of the damage and power of the tornado, the weather service said, adding it will conduct storm surveys on Monday and Tuesday.

Home, businesses and offices were destroyed. Dallas Lutheran School near Forest Lane and 75 experienced sufficient damage that the school is shut down. "And the people of Texas can rest assured that the state will do everything it can to assist those affected by these horrific storms".

The Dallas Independent School District also said some of its campuses had "sustained extensive damage" and announced that Monday classes at six schools would be cancelled. While north Texas also experienced more outbreaks of large hail and high winds during the same storm occurrence, which all suggests a larger insurance and reinsurance market impact. Multiple tornado warnings were in effect around the Memphis, Tennessee, area during the Monday morning commute, but no additional tornadoes were reported. The schools are all in northwest Dallas.
