Trump suggests intel chairman should be arrested for 'treason'

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday escalated his attacks against the Democratic lawmaker leading the impeachment inquiry against him, suggesting on Twitter that House intelligence committee chair Adam Schiff be arrested for "treason".

He said that there would be "big consequences" for spying on a USA president.

It seems like support for the movement to impeach the president has been growing as well, with many people joining in and expressing their agreement with the views of the Democrats behind the inquiry.

"Under the Senate rules we're required to take it up if the House does go down that path", he said during an interview on CNBC.

Here is how the impeachment process works.

Jeffress said on Fox News that if Trump were removed from office, the United States will suffer "a Civil War-like fracture" that it will "never heal" from. So they included impeachment as a central part of the Constitution. Historically, it can encompass corruption and other abuses, including trying to obstruct judicial proceedings.

Guest host Ayman Mohyeldin asked Jones why he is reluctant to move forward with impeaching the president.

This may seem like an obvious question, but the U.S. Constitution does not require that the Senate vote on an impeachment resolution from the House.

But even if impeachment is approved in the House, Trump would be tried in the Senate - where, for the moment, he appears able to count on a Republican majority to prevent conviction.

He has said he believes no foreign government should have an influence on the USA election, nor should an American president utilize his power to affect an election, calling the action wrong and one that should not be defended.

However, it's highly unlikely that the Republican-held Senate would convict Mr. Trump. This has never happened.

Mr Giuliani, a former NY mayor, had said on television that he asked the Government of Ukraine to "target" Mr Biden, who is a potential Democratic candidate to run against Trump in the 2020 election. But the founders explicitly rejected allowing appeal of a Senate conviction to the federal judiciary. In the earlier survey, voters opposed impeachment, 57 percent to 37 percen. Mr. Amodei discussed the impeachment inquiry process during a conference call on Friday with members of the news media from his home state, and in a follow-up statement issued by his office'.

Justin Amash was the only House Republican to publicly argue that Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct before announcing this summer he was leaving the Republican Party.

"Somebody mentioned yesterday that if there were a private vote, that there would be 30 Republican votes".

"That's the unpardonable sin for which the Democrats will never forgive him", Jeffress said.

Since the transcript of his call with the president of Ukraine was revealed, Mr Trump has called for the anonymous whistleblower to be unmasked.
