Ukraine to review case into company that employed Hunter Biden

The Prosecutor General's Office later said that among the cases they are reviewing, there are 15 where Zlochevsky is mentioned.

"I don't know, that's up to the lawyers", he said.

A frontrunner for much of the 2020 Democratic race, Biden, 76, has not lost significant support in national polls since Trump's request of the Ukraine government came to light.

Asked by The Associated Press about Trump's comment Thursday that the US has an "absolute right" to ask foreign leaders to investigate corruption cases, Zelenskiy said that Ukraine is "open" and that all the cases under investigation are "transparent".

Volker said Giuliani eventually came to believe that the Ukrainian prosecutor, Yuriy Lutsenko, was not credible. "I believed that these accusations by Mr. Lutsenko were themselves self-serving, meant to make him appear valuable to the United States, so that the United States might weigh in against his being removed from office by the new government", Volker said.

"I think a president is doing his job when he wants mutual cooperation to investigate and look at corruption", Chaffetz told "Outnumbered Overtime" Friday.

"The alleged involvement of some Ukrainian politicians" in USA elections appears to be a reference to a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russian Federation, meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

Aides and advisers to Trump have met throughout the week to craft their strategy even as the president made statements that shifted the parameters of the impeachment inquiry in unexpected ways. "He said that Ukraine was a corrupt country, full of 'terrible people.' He said they 'tried to take me down.' In the course of that conversation, he referenced conversations with Mayor Giuliani".

Atkinson's appearance follows lengthy private testimony from former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Kurt Volker before the committee on Thursday - and later the release of text message exchanges among Trump administration officials discussing dealings with Ukraine. "Bill Taylor, reinforced in other meetings", Volker said. "I therefore faced a choice: do nothing, and allow this situation to fester; or try to fix it". He said he received only a general readout of the conversation.

Volker was also working as executive director of the McCain Institute and was a consultant for the lobbying firm BGR, which counted the defense contractor Raytheon and the Ukrainian government as clients until past year. BGR said Volker recused himself from Ukraine government work at the firm when he started the special-envoy job.

But some Republican lawmakers on the panel argued Volker's testimony actually cleared Trump of wrongdoing and furnished new evidence against Hunter Biden, who worked for five years in behalf of a Ukrainian gas company.

They show how cognizant the Ukrainians were about the importance of the election investigation to Trump and Giuliani's role.

Ryaboshapka was mentioned in the July 25 call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who assured Trump that Ryaboshapka was "his man" and that he would resume investigations into Burisma.

The text messages, which were released by the House Intelligence Committee, underscore how Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, was closely connected to United States policy on Ukraine and was involved in setting up the July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelensky, in which Trump also urged an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

"Rudy, just talked to Volker".

In one text message, a senior American diplomat expressed outrage that the administration would withhold military aid until Ukraine complied with demands from Trump and Giuliani. That narrative stands in stark contrast to Volker's statements and to the truth.

The chairmen also said in their letter the investigation involves Vice President Mike Pence.

Sondland: Not sure i did.

On July 21, Taylor - who served as ambassador to Ukraine under President George W. Bush and was appointed interim chargé d'affaires in June after the recall of Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch - cautions Sondland that Zelensky "is sensitive about Ukraine being taken seriously, not merely as an instrument in Washington domestic, reelection politics".

The messages, released Thursday by House Democrats conducting an impeachment inquiry, show the ambassadors coordinating with both Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and a top Zelenskiy aide.
