USA diplomat's wife leaves United Kingdom amid fatal crash investigation

THE mother of a teenager killed in a road crash has appealed for a USA diplomat's wife linked to the accident to return to Britain, as U.S. officials warned "immunity is rarely waived".

Police applied for a waiver of the immunity to pursue the case, but their request was as soon as rejected and so they beget been told she had left the nation, the broadcaster reported, quoting Superintendent Sarah Johnson from Northamptonshire Police.

"(She) engaged fully with us at the time and had previously confirmed to us that she had no plans to leave the country in the near future", Johnson said.

Police stated they ended up "now exploring all chances by diplomatic channels to make certain the investigation carries on to progress".

The BBC said foreign secretary Dominic Raab had asked the USA embassy to reconsider and shadow foreign secretary, Angela Rayner tweeted her plea for fairness.

Harry Dunn, 19, of Charlton, Banbury, was killed when his motorbike crashed with a auto near RAF Croughton on August 27 in Northamptonshire in the East Midlands of England.

Reuters reported Friday that Northamptonshire police "applied for a waiver from diplomatic immunity to allow investigations and an interview" but the US declined the waiver.

Ms Charles said that if the American woman was not willing to return to the United Kingdom, then 'we would probably go over to the States and do whatever we can over there.

A spokesperson for the USA embassy has said: "We express our deepest sympathies and offer condolences to the family of the deceased in this tragic traffic accident".

"We're disgusted, appalled, how she could be having this cloak wrapped around her", said Tim Dunn, Harry's father. "We're a family in ruin", Charlotte Charles informed Sky Information Friday.

"Harry Dunn's family deserve justice and in order to achieve this, a full and thorough investigation, with the assistance of all parties involved, needs to take place", Johnson added.

His mother told Sky News she can't begin grieving until the culprit is brought to justice.

Raab said he regretted the US decision.

"We are also working closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in an effort to come to a resolution regarding this matter", she added. "We have nothing to put our minds at rest that she's even remorseful".

A crowdfunding webpage has been set up to provide support to Mr Dunn's family, including his twin brother Niall.

Rayner added in another tweet: "My son is 22 and this story has really got to me as I can not even imagine the pain this family is going through".
