Manchester City open Raheem Sterling contract negotiations

Manchester City brought Chelsea's six-match winning run in the Premier League to an end with a 2-1 win over the Blues as they moved up to third place.

The Argentine suffered a muscular injury during the 2-1 victory and manager Pep Guardiola revealed that he will be out of action for at least a few weeks.

"(Aguero will miss) a few games, I don't know exactly", Guardiola told reporters ahead of Tuesday's Champions League group match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

City's boss conceded Aguero will definitely miss the Manchester derby on December 7 and he will be a doubt for the trip to the Emirates on December 15.

Manchester City, meanwhile, bounced back from their damaging 3-1 defeat to Liverpool before the global break with an entertaining 2-1 victory against Chelsea - a result which saw them leapfrog Frank Lampard's side into third.

"He has a tendon problem and will be a few games out".

"I think it's not a good message for society, for our kids, for our teenagers, showing them that just the victor is ideal", he said, as quoted by ESPN.

Aguero's absence will mean opportunities for Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus. Since the start of last season, Liverpool have scored 38 goals from set-pieces in the Premier League (including penalties) - eight more than any other club.

"I am not happy because Sergio is injured but I work here every day and I am ready to play".

Jesus admitted it was frustrating to be on the bench regularly but he is not complaining.

"When I chose to come here I knew it would be hard because we have Sergio who is the top scorer in the club and scores every game".

Guardiola was also asked about the future of his highly rated assistant Mikel Arteta, who has again been linked with his former club Arsenal.

Although it is only 12 months since the forward signed his most recent extension, the Premier League champions are prepared to offer Sterling fresh terms which would see his wages rise to £450,000 per week. "We are going to live without him for a while".

Guardiola added: "The position we have is good, we have 10 points but we are not qualified". Tomorrow we have the chance to close the group stage. Their final game is in Zagreb next month.
