Mason Rudolph expresses regret over incident with Browns

The situation probably would not have escalated had he simply got up after the hit from Garrett without losing his cool, but that doesn't in any way excuse Garrett swinging a helmet at Rudolph and clubbing him in the head with it.

At the same time Myles Garrett's appeal was being heard by the National Football League in New York, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph walked into a cramped back room of the team facility with a paper of prepared remarks in hand.

Rudolph said he felt Garrett hit him "late" on the next-to-last snap of Cleveland's 21-7 victory last Thursday, and was unhappy the defensive end would not let him get up.

Garrett, who has since apologized, reportedly will argue players can not be suspended for an indefinite period of time for on-field acts under the collective bargaining agreement. Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was suspended for one game.

Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett appealed Wednesday his indefinite suspension, which was levied against him for taking Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Mason Rudolph's helmet and hitting him with it.

"For my involvement last week, there's no acceptable excuse".

As for the speculation he may have said something to put Garrett over the edge. As I released the ball, I took a late shot, did not agree with the way he then took me to the ground. "I was just trying to get him off of me", Rudolph said. The bottom line is I should have done a better job keeping my composure in that situation. Garrett then grabbed Rudolph's facemask, and Rudolph tried to shove him away with a foot to the groin area. "I understand there are going to be a few questions, but I think it's in the best interest of our team, my teammates, our coaches to kind of move forward from this and move things on to the Cincinnati Bengals and keep looking to try to stack some wins here".

Garrett, Ogunjobi and Pouncey were ejected from the game. Both teams were fined $250,000. Rudolph said he would comply with whatever the league hands out.
