MMA star Conor McGregor fined for assaulting elderly man in Irish bar

Conor McGregor pleaded guilty on Friday to punching a man in the face in an Ireland bar last April while promoting his whiskey, according to reports.

Mr Staines said: "What happened was indeed wrong and inappropriate and he accepts that and has apologised to the injured party and, thankfully, (Mr Keogh) accepts it".

His victim didn't attend today's sentence hearing, but McGregor's solicitor told the judge he accepts his client's apology.

Video shows McGregor offering a round of shots to men sitting at the bar, then lashing out when one of them refuses to take the drink.

The court heard the UFC fighter has already paid compensation to the man, but the amount wasn't disclosed this afternoon.

Mr Keogh didn't appear in court and no victim impact statement was sent. Twelve. Keogh, seated at the bar, refused the glass.

The footage of the incident was shown in court after the guilty plea and the judge was informed McGregor had 18 previous convictions dating back to age 19.

Earlier today, his solicitor Michael Staines indicated to the court that Mr McGregor meant to plead guilty to the offence.

Explaining the story behind their beef, McGregor said he'd had enough of him posting memes about the fighter on Instagram, adding: "So I'd like to have a knock-off with 50 yeah, so if you're listening 50, let's get it going bud".

The mixed martial arts star is facing a single charge of assault.

He said the fighter's whole career could "be in jeopardy in the case of a conviction", as it would be hard to obtain a U.S. visa.

McGregor was given one month to pay the fine.
