More than 2 million pounds of chicken products recalled in eight states

The poultry items were produced from October 21, 2019, through November 4, 2019.

Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc, based in Arkansas, is recalling 2,071,397 pounds of products such as ready-to-cook chicken wings, chicken breast meat, halal chicken leg quarters and chicken tenderloins. Simmons, with headquarters in Siloam Springs, has chose to recall 2,071,397 pounds of poultry products because of the contamination. The products have the establishment number "P-1949", "P- 486" or "P-5837" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

The recall notice said Simmons officials had concerns that "some product may be frozen and in institutional freezers" and advised institutions to not serve the products. The recall, however, does not include chicken sold in stores.

Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) or live chat via Ask USDA from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m.

This issue was discovered through Simmons standard food safety and quality checks.

No one has reported any "adverse reactions" yet from consuming the poultry products, according to a press release from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Wednesday. "When something happens that is potentially inconsistent with this promise to our customers, it will always require careful and constant review to maintain our commitment to food safety".
