Courts also ruled that both men must complete 80 hours of sexual violence treatment programs, CNN reports. Both K-pop stars pleaded not guilty, but were accused of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, aggravated by their participation in the online chatroom KakaoTalk, where the secret sex tapes were shared.

"It is hard to fathom the extent of suffering the victims must have gone through".

He also said it seemed Jung viewed the victims just as a tool for pleasure.

"From now on, I shall only. live in remorse", he added. Jung received additional charges of filming and distributing footage of the rape, the Seoul Central District Court announced it's verdict on Friday.

This is the latest in several sex scandals that have rocked the K-pop world scene lately, in recent years.

"The defendants may be young in age, but the crime committed is too serious and grave. These women were not kidnapped on the street, but followed the handsome singers".

"The two have asserted that they had sex with the women after obtaining their consent, but the women were in a state where they were unable to protest or resist", the court noted. Thanks to them, things are changing.

According to multiple reports, two high-profile K-pop stars have been sentenced to prison for sexual assault.

At the very least, this horrific crime - which has taken place in the shadows of South Korean society - has been dragged into the light.

Lee Seung-hyun, a former member of K-pop group Big Bang and known by the stage name Seungri, is also on trial over accusations he paid for prostitutes for foreign businessmen to drum up investment in his business. Seungri is facing his own criminal charges as a co-owner of Burning Sun, a nightclub in Seoul's glamorous Gangnam neighborhood in which prosecutors allege Seungri operated a prostitution side business for wealthy clientele and laundered money from prostitution and gambling.

Police reportedly found Jung's videos while investigating that case.
