
Kingston police have confirmed that seven people are dead, including two minors, after a small aircraft crashed in Kingston.
"I'd like to offer my condolences to the families of people who lost loves one", TSB spokesperson Chris Krepski said near the crash site on Thursday.
Frontenac Paramedic Services, which covers the county, including the city, said they were called to the scene but did not treat any patients.
In a statement on its website the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said it would send a team of investigators to the scene early Thursday.
OPP East are also on scene assisting Kingston Police with the investigation.
Officers said the plane was hard to access so chose to wait until Thursday morning and the arrival of air crash investigators in order to recover it. Environment Canada was warning of gusts up to 50mph.
Officials say residents of the area are not at risk.
Police went to their property to ask if they'd seen anything and were later spotted searching the fields around the property. "There were lots of them", said Amanda Englin.
A spokesman for Canadian Forces Base Trenton said a military helicopter dealt with high winds while it searched for the crash site.
Emergency responders remain at the site of the crash in Kingston, involving a Piper PA-32 aircraft.
Trained search and rescue technicians dropped down from the helicopter into the wooded area north of Creekford Road.
