Pompeo again contradicts ex-adviser's impeachment testimony

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday narrowly denied the testimony of a top aide of his who resigned partially out of frustration that the State Department wasn't willing to publicly support a diplomat who President Donald Trump had attacked. He also said that so-called "porohobots" were actively involved in the campaign against the ex-ambassador, according to the text of Kent's testimony in the House of Representatives Committee, according to the Voice of America.

Yovanovitch became the target of a smear campaign orchestrated by the president's personal attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani, who circulated unsubstantiated allegations that she was disloyal to Trump and allied with former vice president Joe Biden.

As a result, Marie Yovanovitch was dismissed from the post of ambassador, in addition to Lutsenko and former Prosecutor General Shokin, Kent also enlisted prosecutor Konstantin Kulyk, who met with Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

US Congress continues hearings on President Donald Trump's impeachment.

Yovanovitch testified that she felt threatened when she read those words when the White House released a memorandum of the call on September 24, according to the transcript of her sworn deposition released by the House.

Miller, who worked under seven secretaries of state, said Pompeo has been "very badly damaged" by Ukraine and that his actions, or lack of actions, "pose a huge problem for the Department of State, to the whole notion of professionalism and public service".

After memorandum was released, McKinley testified, he pushed Pompeo to release a statement supporting Yovanovitch multiple times.

"It would be in part to protect Ambassador Yovanovitch", McKinley testified, explaining what he was told of Pompeo's reasoning. On all three occasions, according to the transcript of his deposition, he said he did not get a response from Pompeo.

"I think at that point I said, well, you know".

"From the time that Ambassador Yovanovitch departed Ukraine until the time that he came to tell me that he was departing, I never heard him say a single thing about his concerns with respect to the decision that was made", Pompeo said.

In the October 20 interview with ABC, Pompeo offered a broad blanket denial that McKinley had ever approached him about a statement at any point from Yovanovitch's return in May until McKinley's resignation at the end of September. I was pretty direct. "It shouldn't surprise anyone that in May, when that took place, he didn't say a thing to me".

Testimony from other diplomats over the past weeks have described Giuliani's role in Ukraine as running a foreign policy outside the boundaries of the State Department.

When Stephanopoulos asked directly whether he was asked to issue a statement of support, Pompeo declined to comment: "I'm not going to talk about private conversations that I had with my most trusted advisers".

The failure to support Yovanovitch, as well as signs that the State Department was being used for the President's domestic political purposes, spurred McKinley's decision to resign, he said.
