Son Heung-min travels with Spurs squad for Red Star Belgrade clash

The Champions League has provided Tottenham with some respite following their 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade last time out.

But the statistics show that Spurs should expect anything but an easy ride when they walk out at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.

In 2018-19, Red Star caused an upset with a 2-0 home victory over eventual champions Liverpool in the group stage.

Red Star are keen to avoid any issues, posting a video on their Instagram page, while their coach Vladan Milojevic promised there would be no problem.

Red Star fans were banned from attending that match by Uefa after they were found guilty of racism during a qualifying game in Finland in July.

"You look at where we started in the group stage a year ago and where we got to, we proved a lot of people wrong", he said.

"Red Star will not be fooled by what they have to do, but they will have been embarrassed by what they went through in London". It's good for him and good for the team. The Argentine played under 20 minutes of the game against Everton over the weekend.

Leading the line, Spurs have two of the most electrifying forwards in European football in Harry Kane and Heung-min Son while the creative talents of Christian Eriksen, Lucas Moura and big-money signings Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are world renowned.

Spurs face off against Red Star Belgrade in Belgrade on Wednesday, in a match that they need a win to pull away from the Serbian side, who are just a point behind them in Group B.

However, Erik Lamela remains out with a thigh injury while Jan Vertonghen is also ruled out of the game due to a hamstring complaint. So far in this year's competition they have been held to a draw by Olympiakos before suffering a humbling 7-2 home defeat to Bayern Munich.

Red Star came closing to equalising on the stroke of halftime in nearly identical fashion as Dutch forward Rajiv Van la Parra hit the post and the rebound cannoned off Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez on to the crossbar.
