Oklahoma heads into Championship Weekend one spot behind Utah in CFP rankings

Heading into Week 15, the top seven teams in the College Football Playoff ranking are still in contention.

Pac-12 championship game: No. 5 Utah (11-1) vs. Clemson, the defending national champion, is heavily favored against Virginia (9-3) in the ACC title game.

For No. 5 Utah, this would be its first conference title ever.

If Ohio State handily beats Wisconsin, the Nittany Lions could be headed to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl.

And what about the Pac-12 and Big 12 champs?

The Ducks have not excelled against the spread this season, failing to cover in the last two games against Arizona State and Oregon State, and are 6-6 for the season. OR throttles Utah in the Pac-12 championship game, Baylor destroys Oklahoma and Virginia beats Clemson by three touchdowns, leaving no doubt the Cavs are the superior team (just work with us here). The over/under line in terms of total points scored, meanwhile, is set at 64.5.

So, which teams will be celebrating a conference championship and hoping that it leads to holding a much bigger trophy in the coming weeks?

Oklahoma and the Bears will kickoff at 11 a.m. CT on ABC from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. But the Tigers also have a running back in Clyde Edwards-Helaire, he's one player that could and might possibly run through the Georgia Defense. OR throttles Utah within the Pac-12 championship sport, Baylor destroys Oklahoma and Virginia beats Clemson by three touchdowns, leaving little question the Cavs are the superior crew (simply work with us right here).

If the Bulldogs are to stand a chance, their offense must step up, but it's worth noting they are 6-2 against the spread as the underdog since coach Kirby Smart took over in 2016. LSU coach Ed Orgeron celebrates with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (22) after a touchdown during the second half of the team's NCAA college football game against Texas A&M in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019. The latter happening would decrease the importance of conference title games, which have been emphasized as a key component of a team's playoff resume. The national championship game will be January 13 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Based on those figures, they should cover easily.

Can LSU jump Ohio State for the top spot?

I have not forgot about Justin Fields or J.K. Dobbins either and they will be the two players on my watchlist on Saturday Night. "I certainly think there's a sense of eagerness or excitement that you've done all that you can and you get a right to play in this game", said Chryst.
