Under-the-radar candidates to replace David Fizdale as coach of Knicks

NY fired David Fizdale on Friday following an embarrassing 129-92 loss to the Nuggets at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, pushing the team's losing streak to eight straight games.

Other obvious names to consider are assistants Mike Miller (not the one who played in the NBA) and Pat Sullivan, both of whom are current assistants.

The Knicks lost eight straight games, including a 129-92 loss to Denver on Thursday night that dropped the team to an Eastern Conference-worst 4-18, which is tied for the worst record in franchise history.

Fizdale, who had previously served as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, finished with a 21-83 record in NY.

"I don't know where the decision was made to fire Coach Fizdale, but if it came from the top, it's a case of mistaken identity", San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said of the firing.

For weeks, Fizdale has been walking a razor's edge. Miller, the former G League coach, has 60 games to prove himself or else round up the usual suspects: Mark Jackson, Jason Kidd, Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau.

The New York Knicks plan on either reassigning Steve Mills or parting ways with him, according to sources that spoke with Frank Isola of The Athletic.

NY dismissed Fizdale on Friday, with the Knicks a conference-worst 4-18 for the season amid an eight-game losing streak.

NBA Twitter went off on the Knicks on Friday.

Overall, the Knicks have missed the playoffs in six consecutive seasons, which is tied for the second-longest streak in franchise history.
