'Captain Marvel' Sequel Reportedly in the Works

Coincidentally, a grown-up version of Captain Marvel's Monica Rambeau will debut in WandaVision, played by Tyonah Parris.

It found Larson's Kree superhero struggling to piece together memories of where she came from, while also finding herself at the centre of a galactic conflict.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Megan McDonnell, whose already working on the MCU Disney+ series WandaVision, has been tapped to pen the Captain Marvel 2 script, and she's now in final negotiations to officially come aboard. Almost a dozen features and series are in the works for Disney+, including "Loki" (2021), "Hawkeye" (2021) and "Ms. Marvel", which doesn't yet have a release date. Early reports suggest that finding a female director is a priority. Larson's no-nonsense hero also packed a wallop at the box office, with $1.13 billion in global box office.

Megan McDonnell, a staff writer on the upcoming Marvel-based series WandaVision, will be writing the script. And it appears Captain Marvel 2 will be the first of them, as the film is now officially in the works at Marvel Studios.

With Phase 4 and its 10 projects set to run through 2021, it's safe to assume that the rest of these films will begin rolling out sometime in 2022. Furthermore, it is said this new story will move from the 1990s of the original to the present day.

All in all, with Black Widow, The Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2, Blade and even more movies on the way, the next stages of the MCU should be very interesting.
