Greek Tsitsipas serves up win over Zverev

Greek Tsitsipas serves up win over Zverev

Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas has complained of an arm irritation after Denis Shapovalov pulled off the ATP Cup's first upset to seal victory for Canada in their opening clash in Brisbane on Friday.

And against Tsitsipas on Sunday as Germany played Greece, Zverev vented his anger at his father Alexander Zverev Sr as he threw his racket and stormed off the court after losing the first set 6-1.

Zverev cut an exasperated figure as he traded words with his team between games, before finishing with 10 double faults and a first serve success rate of 45 per cent at Pat Rafter Arena.

World No. 21 Auger-Aliassime and No. 15 Shapovalov - who were part of Team Canada's loss to Spain at the Davis Cup Final - hit the court against Greece on the opening day of the tournament for two singles matches and one doubles match against Michail Pervolarakis and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

"I thought my opponent played well, he was better than me, no doubt about that", said Isner. Serving for the set, Tsitsipas landed four winners in game seven for a commanding 6-1 in 30 minutes, ruling the court so far and leaving Zverev far behind in nearly every element. I'm serving 120 kilometers an hour, that's not really going to cut it.

Australia was playing Germany in the other Group F match on Friday in Brisbane.

Shapovalov got his season of to an impressive start with a signature win in his first match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the world number six, representing Greece on Friday, winning in straight sets in a little over two hours.

"It's definitely up there", said de Minaur in Brisbane, when asked how the victory ranked in his career.

After their shock defeat to Norway on Day 1, Team United States were beaten 2-1 again, this time by Russian Federation. Alexander Zverev has won 3 prior head-to-head matches while Denis Shapovalov has won only once.

Teams from 24 countries will battle through the group stage - versing each country in their pool in two singles and a doubles match - to reach the final eight teams, in a format similar to that of the football World Cup.

"I wanted to give the boys something back and just make sure they learn".

"Coming out here and beating two top 20 players at the beginning of the year is great for my confidence", said world number 54 Ruud.

Darcis opened proceedings for Belgium and looked set for a comfortable win before the 818th ranked Alexander Cozbinov pegged him back and took the second set.

A forehand victor pushed Stefanos 4-1 up and he grabbed another break a few minutes later following a double fault from a frustrated German who was losing ground more and more as the match progressed.

"It was great, it was fun", said Belgium world number 11 David Goffin, who swept past Moldova's Radu Albot 6-4, 6-1 on the way to helping his team to a 3-0 clean sweep in Sydney.
