Cable service out in much of ME, possibly part of larger outage

The outage affected customers in ME and New Hampshire Friday, the company said.

Spectrum announced on its Twitter account that service had been cut to its ME customers, but the company did not immediately provide any details about what caused the outage or how many customers lost their service.

At around 5pm, Pritchard said that service had been restored.

Spectrum first acknowledged service problems in ME just before 4 p.m. Friday. In a tweet sent less than two hours later, Spectrum said the company's fiber optic network had been damaged, leaving customers without service in New Hampshire as well as Maine.

"It's been hard, gaining access to the area for repairs, until power and storm-related damage have been cleared", Pritchard said Saturday afternoon. She did not identify the location or locations.

The company provided a little information over the weekend through tweets but there was no official news release sent or information on the Spectrum websites other than updates on an outage map.

There was also a problem with the over-the-air signal of WXXI-TV on Saturday afternoon, which was apparently related to the Spectrum outage.

"Fiber optic damage" has caused the outage, Spectrum said.
