Countries tighten China travel curbs as official admits mishandling virus outbreak

Corona beer first originated at Grupo Modelo in Mexico.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the global outbreak of coronavirus to be a public health emergency of worldwide concern.

Beijing has slammed the U.S. for issuing a warning against traveling to virus-stricken China, calling the decision "truly mean".

"This virus has spread at unprecedented scale and speed, with cases passing between people in multiple countries across the world", said Dr. Jeremy Farrar, director of Britain's Welcome Trust. So don't worry -unless someone with the virus drinks your beer and contaminates the bottle, you'll be good.

Thankfully, not everyone is confusing the health issue with the beer. American Airlines announced an immediate suspension of all flights to and from China through March 27.

Wuhan officials have been criticised online for withholding information about the infection until the end of past year, despite knowing about the new illness weeks earlier.

"If strict control measures had been taken earlier, the result would have been better than now", he told state broadcaster CCTV.

"While many travel insurance plans provide for cancellation for an airline shut-down in services due to a mechanical failure, adverse weather or natural disaster, they do not provide for an airline shut-down due to the coronavirus outbreak", explains Stan Sandberg, co-founder of TravelInsurance.com.

In addition, the US government will enforce a two-week mandatory quarantine period for Americans returning from Hubei province, where the outbreak originated.

Japan has evacuated hundreds of citizens from Wuhan this week.

One French evacuee was hospitalised with coronavirus symptoms.

Myanmar sent a plane back to China after a Chinese passenger was hospitalised with possible symptoms.

Britain reported its first confirmed cases Friday.

"The only way we will defeat this outbreak is for all countries to work together in a spirit of solidarity and cooperation", Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of World Health Organization, said in a news conference Thursday.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause diseases ranging from the common cold to more serious illnesses, from pneumonia to respiratory syndrome in the Middle East, known as MERS, and severe acute respiratory syndrome or SARS.
