Netflix Confirms Expanded Cast of 'The Witcher' for Season 2

This will mark the latest TV project for Hivju since portraying the fan-favorite wildling Tormund Giantsbane in HBO's award-winning series Game of Thrones which had aired its eighth and final season last May. Eskel is the oldest among them and probably Geralt's best witcher friend. And with a new season of Henry Cavill gallivanting around as Geralt comes a cast of new characters ready to grace your screen.

Hivju will play Nivellen, who in the Witcher books is a man cursed to take on the appearance of a monster. The Witcher debuted at the tail end of 2019, as a neat holiday present for existing fans of the popular games and novels, as well as folks who had no idea what a Witcher even is. There is no scheduled release date for Season 2, but fans can expect its premiere on Netflix at some point in 2021.

Game of Thrones alum Kristofer Hivju is making his way to a new fantasy realm. But then neither is Geralt of Rivia's mentor, so there's still hope. Anya Chalotra will be back as Yennefer, with Joey Batey as Jaskier and Freya Allan as Ciri.

Umbrella Academy's Stephen Surjik will direct the first two episodes of the second season, followed by Sarah O'Gorman for episodes 3 and 4, Ed Bazalgette for episodes 5 and 8, and Geeta V. Patel for episodes 6 and 7.

The streamer renewed "The Witcher" for Season 2 last fall with an eight-episode order, more than a month before the freshman season hit the streaming service.

In a statement, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich had this to say about the casting news and the high standards Season 1 set in terms of recruiting talented actors to play these beloved characters.

Other returning cast include MyAnna Buring (Kill List) as Tissaia, Tom Canton (Good Karma Hospital) as Filavandrel, Lilly Cooper (Peterloo) as Murta, Jeremy Crawford (Titans) as Yarpin Zigrin, Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks) as Cahir, Mahesh Jadu (Marco Polo) as Vilgefortz, Terence Maynard (Cursed) as Artorius, Lars Mikkelson (House of Cards) as Stregobor, Mimi Ndiweni (Black Earth Rising) as Fringilla Vigo, Royce Pierreson (Judy) as Istredd, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte(Hunter Street) as Dara, Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter) as Triss Merigold, Therica Wilson Read(Young Wallander) as Sabrina.
