Rush Limbaugh says he's been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer

The iconic conservative firebrand host made the shocking announcement Monday during his radio program. "But there are going to be days I'm not going to be able to be here because I'm undergoing treatment or I am reacting to treatment".

Limbaugh said he plans to take the next couple of days off to figure out a course of action for his treatment and have further testing done. "I can't help but feel that I'm letting everybody down with. Rush Limbaugh changed talk radio - he created the viability of talk radio", Dori said. "I'm sure you all know by now, I really don't like talking about myself, and I don't like making things about me other than in the usual satirical joking way".

Limbaugh said his diagnosis was confirmed on January 20 after he experienced shortness of breath on January 12. I like this program to be about you and the things that matter to all of us.

Limbaugh is considered the most influential conservative talk radio host in the country, having reshaped the genre when his national show debuted more than three decades ago.

"Rush is both a colleague and a dear friend, and I know he will handle the situation with courage and grace", said Rich Bressler, the president of Premiere's parent company iHeartMedia, in a statement.

"Know that everyday I'm not here, I'll be thinking about you and missing you", he told his listeners as he signed off. "You've been one of the greatest sources of confidence that I've had in my life".

Limbaugh began the final segment of Monday's program by telling listeners that he had news he had to share with them, though that he struggled with whether to announce it publicly.

"This has happened and my intention is to come here every day I can".

Limbaugh also said he told his staff earlier in the day that he has a "deeply personal relationship with God that I do not proselytize about" and that he's been focused intently on that spiritual relationship since his diagnosis. "Love you so much Rush", his producer, Bo Snerdley, tweeted.

His show was nationally syndicated by 1988 with 56 radio stations.
