WhatsApp's latest iOS beta update brings dark mode, advanced search

The darker wallpapers are particularly neat because they're adapt based on your theme, so the wallpaper brightens up when dark mode is disabled. In this second configuration, WhatsApp uses lighter dark colors for some of the UI elements. A beta version of the update for the Android version of WhatsApp was seen last month, and probably hints at the features iOS users can expect.

The chat bubbles appear in a dark contrasting color whereas the wallpaper and other settings menu have an all-black background with slightly contrasting menu bars. There's also a redesigned dark theme splash screen with white WhatsApp logo.

Users should keep in mind that the feature can only be accessed on phones running iOS 13 or later, which means Dark Theme for WhatsApp is available for iPhone 6s or later.

Lots of iOS apps now offer their own dark modes that do work on earlier versions of Apple's software.

Note that the WhatsApp TestFlight beta program on iOS is already at maximum capacity, so if you're not already on it, you'll have to wait for the build to go public, which could be any day now. In addition to expanding the availability of dark mode, the fresh beta update also adds solid colours for chat wallpapers, background blur effect, advanced search mode, and brings back the context mode with haptic touch support. It is now unknown if dark mode for WhatsApp will support iPhones running on iOS 12 or earlier.

Another notable feature that arrives with the WhatsApp v2.20.30.25 update for iPhones is the Advanced Search Mode that has reportedly been in development for quite some time.

Similarly, it could be coming to iOS too, right after receiving the Dark Mode update. The exact availability or release of this stable version is now not known, however, since the dark mode is widely/publicly available on the beta version, we could expect the official rollout sooner or later this year. The Advanced Search Mode allows users to search for specific message types and look through media stored on the phone. One can also choose between "Grid" and "Captions" view while using this mode. It also supports the official iOS 13 APIs and also respects the Apple guidelines, just like Instagram.
