NSW govt 'aggressively' attempts to 'transfer blame' for the cruise ship debacle

The state's new social distancing laws, which ban gatherings of more than two people and prevent people from leaving the house without a "reasonable excuse", will be over by the end of June, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told reporters this morning.

Per ABC's reports, Fuller also mentioned that he is now personally reviewing every single ticket given to the public for violating social distancing laws to double check that they are fair and in line with the govt advice.

"We are taking a sensible but pragmatic approach to these cruise ships", he said, adding that talks with the ships' owners were ongoing. "The federal government has issued warning notices to return to their port of origin".

Medical officials boarded the Ruby Princess cruise ship in Australia on Thursday to conduct health checks for crew members amid reports that at least 200 of the 1,000-plus employees on board were sick and self-isolating on the coronavirus-linked ship.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the slowdown in infections is pleasing but people can't afford to be complacent.

On Monday, NSW Health said 189 cases of coronavirus in the state had been linked to the the Ruby Princess, with a further 66 cases from the ship Ovation of the Seas, 26 cases from the Voyager of the Seas, and four from the Celebrity Solstice - for a total of 285 cases linked to cruise ships, almost 15 percent of the state's total caseload yesterday. They don't pay taxes in Australia, they don't park their boats in Australia, their primary flags are often in the Caribbean in different islands.

Australia's most populous state said today police enforcement of restrictions on personal movement meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus would last three months, as the number of new cases continued to slow.

On the other side of the country, the state government in Western Australia is urging a German-operated cruise ship to leave its waters amid concerns that a coronavirus outbreak on board could overwhelm already-strained local hospitals. They might seem harsh, but these isolation measures are created to keep all of us safe as the govt does their best to slow down the spread of COVID-19 in the community - and so far, it seems like we're faring relatively okay. A handful of people had been evacuated off the ships with coronavirus symptoms, as well as another person who had suffered a medical episode, and pregnant women.

"People will have gotten the message by then, hopefully".

"The core of that is to make sure we provide every opportunity for businesses not only to keep going but to make sure that they're accelerating what they can do during this time".
