Apple Releases iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5, and tvOS 13.4.5

If you've got an iOS 13-capable device, you can grab your update by going into Settings General Software Update.

Other new additions include Face ID enhancements when wearing a mask and group FaceTime changes. One of the reasons could be that health authorities are yet to incorporate the Apple and Google Exposure Notification API in their apps.

Apps that incorporate the Exposure Notification API will use Bluetooth to track and identify people in contact with an infected person. In the future, apps developed by public health agencies can use this technology to send a notification if you've been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 - or rather, if your phone was near the phone of someone who tested positive for COVID-19. To ensure user privacy, Apple and Google state that temporary exposure keys are generated randomly instead of being derived from a tracing key.

Apple is including an Exposure Logging toggle under Settings that will let you opt-out of participating in COVID-19 Exposure Notifications if a health app is installed.

This framework will allow governments and public health agencies to develop apps that alert you if you've come into contact with someone who later tests positive for Covid-19 and that person anonymously logs their positive result into a database. Here's how to update iOS on an iPhone, and how to update iPadOS on an iPad. The effort requires transparency from the public and organizational efforts from health authorities. This is due to the large number of people that are regularly wearing face protection during the coronavirus pandemic.

iOS 13.5 solves this problem by adding the option to enter your passcode right away so you don't have to go through the charade of trying to use Face ID when you know it won't work. Another change that iOS 13.5 introduces is the option to control automatic prominence in group FaceTime calls. Also, the UI will now show the passcode field automatically after swiping up from the bottom of the lock screen. For full details, check out their release notes here.
