On March 14, as the world began to witness a rapid spread of the novel coronavirus, India had reported just 100 cases of Covid-19 compared to China's more than 80,000.

As of 8 am on Thursday, the Union Health Ministry had confirmed 78,003 cases of COVID-19 including 2,549 deaths, 49,219 active cases, and 26,234 recoveries. Over the past seven days, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Delhi have seen the highest spike in cases among the top ten states with most cases. The number of deaths across the country stood at 2,649, it showed.

Tamil Nadu has a tally of 9,674 cases inclusive of 2,240 patients cured/discharged and 66 fatalities.
